katami gawari bowl

red/black urushi soup bowl / 片身替わり

This style of bowl, painted with contrasting black urushi and red bengala on each side, is called "katami-gawari" (one-sided). This style is very traditional in Japan, but the visible brush strokes and the striking combination of colours make it a very modern style.

At 12cm in diameter, the bowls are slightly larger than most urushi bowls, with a wide mouth that makes it easy to serve different types of food.

The straight shape of the bowl makes it comfortable to hold, and the fabric reinforcement and multiple layers of urushi make it heat resistant and insulating - ideal for use as a soup or small udon bowl.

黒とベンガラの漆を左右で塗り分けた、“片身替わり”のお椀です。古くからある日本のデザインですが、今でもとてもモダン。

口径12㎝とちょっと大ぶりで、口が広いかたちなので様々なタイプの料理も盛り付けやすく、使えば食卓がぐっとしまります。

素直なかたちで手になじみ、保温性・断熱性が高いから、具だくさんの汁物や小どんぶりとしてもお使いいただくのもおすすめです。
